Pastrami Reuben from Hank’s Filling Station (BBQ & Bourbon Joint) in Norfolk

I get questions about my food photography portfolio quite a bit asking why I don’t doctor my photos to make them look better. To me, “better” is relative. I like real. I like to let the hero (in this case, the Reuben) talk to you.

If I photoshop out the sandwich picks and the cool backgrounds, and touch-up the sauerkraut, and apply a filter to the photo to add sunrays in a tree-covered backyard, then you don’t get the real experience the pitmaster is presenting to you.

And if I play around with photoshop too much, then you’re not getting my true photography skills either. You would get more of my interpretation and not the real deliciousness. And yes, this sandwich is as delicious as it looks!
