According to a press release from the Daily Press:
The Daily Press and the Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University are hosting a “Transportation Town Hall” meeting and panel discussion from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, March 4. Five panelists with extensive knowledge and experience on the issues will be the featured speakers:
- Hampton Mayor Molly Ward, chair of the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization
- Portsmouth Mayor Kenneth Wright
- Camelia Ravanbahkt, deputy executor director of the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization
- Alan Witt, CPA, former member of the Commonwealth Transportation Board
- Aubrey Lane, Hampton Roads representative on the Commonwealth Transportation Board
In addition to offering their remarks, panelists will field questions about transportation-related issues. The panel format will provide frank discussion of the most important topics — outside of the political theater and party-related wrangling of the General Assembly. Topics will include the following:
- The state of transportation in the Commonwealth
- Aging infrastructure, deferred maintenance and the cost of new construction
- Fiscal constraints and the funding dilemma
- Regional project priorities
- Short-term solutions and congestion pricing
- The relationship of the Public-Private Transportation Act, the Virginia Department of Transportation and the HRTPO
Questions may be submitted in advance to Rebecca Troyer, rtroyer@dailypress.com. Questions to be submitted to panelists will be selected by the Daily Press.
