My laptop gets more action than I do!

December 10th, 2009 Keith Parnell 1 comment

Get your mind out of the gutter. :)

Below is a picture of my laptop and coffee hanging out at Panera Bread in Pembroke in Virginia Beach yesterday. Between the weekly Coffee with the CEO sessions, the coffee and lunch meetings, the many virtual work sessions at local coffee shops, and various social media networking events, my laptop sees an estimated 500 fresh pairs of eyes per week. That’s over 2,100 people seeing the stickers on my laptop per month and 26,000 people per year being exposed to my brand.

What is that kind of exposure worth to your company? We’re talking creative advertising at its finest. Let’s talk.

About 50 or so like-minded business professionals attended last evening’s Hampton Roads Tweetup. The tweetup was organized by the Hampton Roads Internet Marketing & Technology Group and sponsored and hosted by the Surf Club Ocean Grille in Virginia Beach. The success of the meetup is positive proof that social media is alive and well in Hampton Roads.

Inbound Marketing is a Money Maker for Any Size Business

October 25th, 2009 Keith Parnell 1 comment

Let’s talk about mixing the two worlds of offline advertising and online advertising. Don’t allow advertising budget segregations to not let inbound marketing do its job. Inbound marketing is a money maker for any size business.

How to Fail with Advertising

October 23rd, 2009 Keith Parnell 2 comments

I found myself this afternoon driving around Town Center in Virginia Beach looking for a parking space before a lunch meeting at Gordon Biersch. For those of you that do not live in Virginia Beach, Town Center is ‘the’ business mecca in Southside Hampton Roads.

In front of me at a stop light was this (photo below) mobile truck advertisement. With a quick glance you can tell the ad is for a television program. I can make a logical guess that the advertiser just wants me to tune in to the tv show.

But what if the advertiser were to display a website address (URL) on the ad. Wouldn’t that make more sense? A website builds community. A website builds loyalty. A website builds a list of consumers that like you that could potentially buy from you. A website creates a location for more (lesser expensive) advertising. A website provides a location for past shows on video. I could go on but you get the picture.

Don’t miss out with your advertising. Don’t think that inbound marketing sources are only from online tentacles branching from your web hub. Use your offline techniques to build a more loyal online community.

Twitter users get a little face time at Va. Beach ‘tweetup’

VIRGINIA BEACH

So, you know all those people who spend so much time talking to each other on Twitter? They also like to meet in person, as they did Wednesday evening at a “tweetup.”

More than 90 Twitter users met at Gordon Biersch restaurant at Town Center to see each other in the flesh. Most were professionals networking for business and personal reasons.

“A tweetup is just a gathering of people that use Twitter,” said Naoma Doriguzzi, 32, who has hosted about 10 this year. “Just meeting the people behind Twitter.”

Some Twitter users on Wednesday wore suits; others wore jeans. What they had in common was use of social media to network, meet people and, for many, do business.

Keith Parnell, 46, of Norfolk is the founder of JASE Group, an advertising and marketing company. At a tweetup, people talk about everything, he said, just as they do on Twitter.

“They’re growing relationships,” he said. “They’re growing both personal and they’re growing business relationships.”

Jennifer Taylor, 26, of Suffolk said she got a job interview Wednesday with a marketing company, lined up by someone who followed her on Twitter.

Most of the networking was in person Wednesday night, although some people brought laptops to update Twitter.

Twitter makes it easy for people to have conversations about anything, Doriguzzi said. She is the social media director for New American Mortgage and uses Twitter to brand herself. People she has never met have recognized her because of her photo on Twitter and Facebook, she said.

“I’ve met random people online that I’ve never met in person that I’ve actually done business with - new clients,” she said. “It’s an easy conversation. Because it’s so simple… you can talk to people in a casual way.”
