Survey: City of Norfolk is asking YOU what to do with Waterside Marketplace

February 27th, 2010 Keith Parnell 1 comment

Norfolk, VAWaterside Marketplace first opened in June, 1983. It has been a critical part of the City’s revitalization. Over the years, like other marketplaces, Waterside has evolved through numerous business cycles. Waterside is in need of a major redesign and refocus. Your help is needed to shape this new direction by responding to this survey. We welcome your input.

Imagine that today you will be the only person changing Waterside’s use and look. From your personal perspective, please respond to the following questions.

Take the City of Norfolk’s survey here.

  1. Primary Uses in the Facility should be?
  2. Is the current size of the Facility just right?
  3. What about the current number of floors?
  4. If you assume that the building would stay intact, check all that you would suggest.
  5. In your redesign, would you keep the structure or rebuild?
  6. When you think of three destinations, The Waterside Marketplace, MacArthur Center Mall and Granby Street, what suggestions do you have to ensure they compliment each other?
  7. Have you visited other places in other cities that you would suggest be a model for the redesign and/or reuse of the Waterside?
  8. What priority should the City place on changing Waterside?
  9. Other suggestions for Waterside?

January 30th, 2010 Keith Parnell 2 comments

Nicole and I took Reggie for a long walk around our neighborhood on the Lafayette River in Norfolk during the height of the weekend snow storm. Fun! It’s a little hard to tell in the video but the snow was falling steady, the wind was blowing about 20 MPH, and it was about 25 degrees outside.

My friends Sonya Schweitzer (@socialsonya), Leah Kaiz (@gypsealeah) and Karen Clements (@karenclements) are hosting a Tweetsgiving event on Tuesday, November 24th. The tweetup, with a goal of raising money for the enrichment and aide for the children of our world, is being hosted by Gordon Biersch in Town Center in Virginia Beach.

If you don’t really care about donating for this cause, come out anyway. $10 is well worth the networking and camaraderie of fellow tweeters of Hampton Roads.

Get your tickets for Tweetsgiving Virginia Beach here. We bought our tickets. Will I see you there?

Yes, Epic Change is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and our federal tax identification number is 26-0155393.

2. Why should I donate to Epic Change?
By donating your dollars to Epic Change, you are making a “perpetual” gift. Additionally, unlike many organizations that perform global service, we are not affiliated with any particular political agenda or religious denomination. To avoid potential conflicts of interest and ensure our organization doesn’t participate in undermining indigenous cultural norms and beliefs, we don’t promote propaganda, proselytization or evangelization of any kind.
