Yahoo! blog says 84% of Facebook users visit Yahoo!

That’s right. Yahoo! published numbers from comScore (October 2009) that 84% of us that are on Facebook also visit Yahoo!.

That’s a bit of a surprise to me. Does it surprise you? When was the last time you visited Yahoo!?

  1. Never, unless they’re counting Flickr.

  2. @Walt Taylor : You know what, Walt? I forgot about Flickr. I’ll bet they are counting that photo sharing website as part of the Yahoo! web entities.

  3. Not surprising at all. Yahoo is about 20 times better and more habit forming than Facebook. In fact, I was on Yahoo strong for about 2 years before I got into Facebook and still visit Yahoo Buzz every day. Collaboration is entirely too simple; your email address logs you into everything, you get an avatar, a page, and people can request friendship. Best parts of Yahoo, other than Buzz, is Answers, Finance and Movies. What is uncanny about it is that I wasn’t looking to do any social networking at all, but found myself doing so more on Yahoo than about any other platform. Twitter is what got me away from Yahoo, to be totally honest. Habit forming; I went from 200 followers to nearly 700 in a very short period of time just responding to top trends and responding to people’s posts and using their recommendations on who to follow. You can’t do that on Facebook.

Yahoo is not going anywhere anytime soon, another tool is YouTube, but only if you post videos. If you simply comment you can get some followers and people will actually send you videos, but you have to be unusually active and it really helps if you post videos.

  4. A lot of people don’t understand the appeal of Yahoo because it is so simple on the surface. If you never used it much for search, or have never explored the site you may never understand the appeal. Google, outside of YouTube, does not have this appeal. Hell, from Yahoo you can do a lot of social networking from within Yahoo Mail. About the best that Google has is Wave, and I have an invite, and quite honestly, I am not impressed. I was expecting a one click client to check all of my other networks, and do not understand why Facebook and Twitter weren’t seamlessly integrated; it just feels like your typical linux open source product, very disappointing …

  5. @Chris : Chris, I agree wholeheartedly about Google Wave. I was expecting much more integration with other social media tools than they gave us. I played in Google Wave for about a week (on and off) and finally packed in because I could not justify that toolset making me more productive.

  6. The joining of the two will make my life simpler in lots of ways. Instead of using them separately now I will be able to do it all from a single log on. I do also use Google (Gmail mainly) as I have done for many years but find the other aspects less useful. The maps section of Google is the main area we use as we are on the road a lot and its directions are beneficial. My Facebook account is steadily growing, mainly from friend referrals which is better than just selling your self.
    Hope the integration keeps developing.
