I get people all the time tell me it’s hard to get up with me when they need. Well, it’s really not that hard. Today’s communications methods make it really easy. You just have to live with me in today’s period.
Old School 101
Email – Try it if you like. Spammers have made email almost impossible to rely on. If you send an email to me and I don’t respond fairly quickly you can assume it’s caught in a spam filter.
Telephone – That’s funny. Try my BlackBerry first. You can leave a message there and YouMail will automatically transpose your voice mail to text and email it to me. Yes, YouMail will get through the spam filters. Make sure to leave a return email address. You can try me at the office too if you are feeling stubborn about a phone call but good luck with catching me there. I’m a mobile person so social connections are better.
Text Message – If you really have to, texting is better than email or phone calls for quick, short communications.
Okay, that’s enough with 1990′s communication attempts.
21st Century Communication
I’m social. I’m mobile. And I’m available. Almost always. My BlackBerry allows me to be that way.
I’m here in the JASEzone. My laptop has the JZ up at at all times. My workstations have the JZ up at all times. And my BlackBerry has the JZ running at all times.
Go here on your computer or smartphone. Message me. I’ll get it. And I’ll get back to you, usually very quickly. Then we’ll line up a video chat or phone call as necessary.
P.S., Please don’t message me to call you. That would kind of defeat the purpose of multitasking. Besides I can message while sitting in a meeting or quiet zone where a phone call would be totally inappropriate.
Where are you available?
What about you? What’s your preference on initializing a new one-on-one communication channel?
