Coffee with the CEO: LinkedIn for Business, with a touch of Inbound Marketing Strategy p.III [video]

Your 2nd generation LinkedIn friends trust you because you’re a friend of a friend. “[LinkedIn generation connections] build a trust bubble.

I don’t pretend to know all of my [LinkedIn Connections]. You never know when they may benefit you or you benefit them down the road.

Knowing your demographics and socialgraphics … socialgraphics is identifying your consumers, potential customers, and where they hang out online.

I don’t have a right or wrong answer for that [social media strategies]. If anyone ever told you there’s a right and wrong answer … for social media [use], they are wrong. There is not ever a right and wrong answer because social media is so new and so malleable and changes so much, it’s really a lot of trial and error to see what works for you in your business in your geographic area.

Inbound Marketing is … about building your presence on the Internet and bringing people to you.

[With Inbound Marketing] You’re building your presence and you’re becoming smart on the Internet … through search engine optimization, blogging, Facebook and LinkedIn.

[LinkedIn] Groups congregate folks together with like interests. [On LinkedIn Groups] You’re almost guaranteed that these folks are professionals.

You have to live in social media to actually get the return on what you’re doing.

Social media marketing is not like old school advertising … it’s not for everyone. It’s not for every business and every vertical.

Social media is part of a big package. It’s just one piece of your toolset on becoming successful in doing business on the internet.

I’m hangin on Google+. Sometimes. Need an invite? Let me know in the comments below.

I like the Google+ application much better than Facebook but the numbers of legitimate people are lacking. Too many spammers so far. We’ll see how things go when Google+ goes public.

Hampton Roads Economy. Light Rail. Small Business. HOV. Multimodal Transportation Center. HRT. High Speed Rail. NOB. Your Thoughts?

Keith, Dale and I had a very interesting conversation on Google+ today that started with high speed rail and moved to Hampton Roads, light rail, our economy, small businesses and several other topics. What can you add?

Wait… Is this the same high speed rail that Obama touts all the time?

BEIJING (AP) — A Chinese bullet train manufacturer recalled 54 trains Friday in a new embarrassment for a problem-plagued prestige project following a July crash that killed 40 people.

Dale Maurice – I’d be wary of anything in the way of planes, trains, automobiles, or boats from the Chinese.  Think dollar store.

Keith Ainsley – LOL!  Just was funny to see this AP story after we’ve been hearing we need to copy them. Just goes to show it’s not as rosey a picture as we’ve been hearing.

Keith Parnell – Are you serious? That’s a little closed-minded of you, my friend. Do you not know how successful high speed rail is across the world? High speed rail and light rail are a good thing for Virginia, for Hampton Roads, and for our economy. Period.

Keith Ainsley – Just stating that people have been touting how we need to be like the Chinese and they’re having problems. With the Tide according to the pilot Charlotte has 3 to 4 times the riders the Tide is expecting. For the cost that seems pretty low. They should have fought to get the Tide to go to Town Center. I think ridership numbers would be higher.  I’ll reserve judgement on Tide until they get concrete numbers to gauge its operations.

Keith Ainsley – Actually, do away with HOV lanes, run lines to NOB. The military traffic taken off the roads would be a welcome relief at rush hour.

Keith Parnell – Light rail lines to NOB/Ocean View are in the plan. This first 7.5 mile stretch is just a starter line. Actually, the first light rail in Virginia and only the 19th in the country. We are breaking ground in transportation technology and no matter what the nay-sayers are squawking, this is a good thing for my small business! As will the new mulitmodal transporation center that opens at Harbor Park in 2013. Direct rail from downtown Norfolk to Richmond/Washington DC?! Awesome.

Keith Ainsley – Keith, I hope it works well.  However, HRT and the city of Norfolk have a crapy track record and the Tide has to shake all the negative financial press it was receiving.  For the most part the Tide itself doesn’t intice me but that’s because I’m not a daily rider.  However, if they add additional lines and I can say, park in downtown Portsmouth, hop the ferry and then go to more destinations than it could be a more viable option.  My only MAJOR complaint with the Tide is they should have gotten the tracks off the street in downtown and tired a monorail approach.  It’s safer from a traffic/accident standpoint and doesn’t add much to the cost.  You going to go riding with me next week?

Keith Parnell – I think we know we can put most, if not all, of the blame on the HRT director that was fired. Bad, bad money and contract mismanagement. No way it should have been designed differently. Its design is perfect. We, as a city, need to grow up and start acting like a big city. The Tide and all of its advantages give us that.

I will be riding for sure. Our HRPTA Board will be out there at 5:30 AM on launch day then I’m working with HRT as a Tide Guide on Saturday morning and Monday morning. Let me know when you’ll be around. Come out and live blog! I’ll put up my schedule on my blog.

Will Google+ Overtake Facebook? Being on LinkedIn, Twitter & Facebook Was Already Overwhelming

google plus featuresI live in online social communities. You guys know that. I live on my blog and on LinkedIn and on Twitter and on Facebook. I dedicate at least 3 hours of my day, every day (!), to social communities and email communications. I have to in order to run my business effectively.

And then Google+ comes along. And it’s a nice, useable interface. But I don’t have time to learn +parnellk63 vs @parnellk63. At least not until delivery services like dlvr.it and geolocation services like Foursquare begin their integration with Google+.

I think I’m sold on Google+.
It works, as far as social communities go.
It’s stable.
People are migrating to Google+.

Now I need the intermediary tools like HootSuite and Seesmic to begin their integration so Google+ can become an efficient communication stream in my day.
