Baseball Has A Branding Problem!

Here’s my ‘hot take of the day’ on why MLB won’t be around in 50 years, and why the NBA and soccer will overtake baseball in the US:

I agree with others who say, the quote below sounds like parents of millennials who don’t take responsibility for raising children who couldn’t give a crap about responsibility, respect, or working hard for a buck (not all millennials are this way, of course). Baseball has robbed players of their personalities and not let fans get to know them, and like them, and idolize them, and spend more money on their jerseys, and help guarantee the success of baseball’s future. Baseball has a “branding” problem, because they’ve hog-tied their greatest assets–their players’ personalities. Think Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, Aaron Judge, Javy Baez, Matt Kemp. The personalities are out there to make baseball popular. MLB needs to let them loose on our kids before it’s too late.

“[Rob] Manfred [, MLB Commissioner] told baseball writers, in response to a question about whether the league could do more on its end to increase [Mike] Trout’s profile, that ‘Mike is a great great player, and a really nice person, but he’s made decisions on what he wants to do, doesn’t want to do, and how he wants to spend his free time or not spend his free time. I think we could help him make his brand very big. But he has to make a decision to engage. It takes time and effort.‘” –
