The art of writing a Press Release

Not everyone can write an effective press release right out of the gate. Well, no one can really. If I could add anything to Ellie’s list below, I would say to make sure you catch your audience where they live. A lot of journalists live on Twitter. Go find them; don’t be lazy and blanket email your press release to the world. What would you add to this list?

  • Write an eye-catching lead.
  • Keep it short.
  • Don’t hurry.
  • Eliminate any passive voice.
  • Add a quote.
  • Support your pitch with concrete details.
  • Simplify complex constructions.
  • Proofread content.
  • Keep practicing.
